Links are one of the most important parts of long term success with a website online.  Sure, there are quick strategies that will allow you to generate traffic and sales, but if you want to get into the Search Engines and achieve high Page Rank with Google, and get the coveted #1 position, you MUST have Links.  Now… When I say links, some of you may be thinking about links on your site… No, that is not it.  I am referring to sites out there on the internet linking to you!

I have used this example for a long time and it seems to work pretty good!  Search engines are like High School.  Let’s say that you are a freshman in High school and want to be popular, you want to have the most friends, right?  Even more importantly, you want to have friends that are older or smarter.  If you are a freshman and have friends that are seniors, you should be instantly popular. The internet is much the same. The more websites on the internet that are linking to your website, the better!  Specifically, you want websites that have higher pagerank or are bigger and better to link to you.  Think of it this way.  The bigger companies out their like Walmart, Nike or Coca Cola are not going to have tons of links leaving their site, but because of their popular and marketing they have thousands of websites on the internet linking to them! 

Because of the need to create links, there have been various strategies created to purchase, persuade or trade links from other sites.  Be careful not to get pulled into some of the strategies of cheating the search engines with "link farms" or "link trading".
